So who is the Serpent on The Masked Singer? We might not find out for sure for awhile, considering that his voice makes us think he can go the distance. But we do know a few things about who this might be. Keeping reading for all the hints we have so far, as well as the most popular and likely guesses. Before the Serpent’s soulful performance of The Proclaimers’ “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles),” the show threw a few hints out about his identity: He’s someone who’s been involved in music and medicine. And he’s a junior, since he was pictured with Serpent Sr. Other clues: a history book, a book called How to Dig Yourself Out of Debt, and the number 31118. Jenny McCarthy was convinced that the Serpent is John Legend, but his voice definitely doesn’t sound like Legend’s, and the clues don’t really match up to him, either. Other guesses were Leslie Odom Jr. and Daveed Diggs, and interestingly enough, both of those absolutely make sense based on what we know so far—and fans seem to agree. Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr. is one of the theories that seems the strongest, especially with the way the clues add up. (He even played a physician in Murder on the Orient Express.) One theory in particular is tied to the “31118” clue—according to one fan on Reddit, the 3 could stand for the number of albums Odom Jr. has released, the 11 is the number of Broadway and off-Broadway productions he’s been a part of, and 18 is the number of years he’s been acting in Broadway shows. Hamilton actors are clearly popular when it comes to figuring out who the Serpent is, because you can add Odom’s costar Daveed Diggs to the list. Judge Ken Jeong guessed Diggs based on the debt book title (“dig”) and tying the history book to the Alexander Hamilton musical that made him famous. The medicine bit doesn’t track, but this theory may not be far off. Multiple fans of Christopher Jackson (who also starred in Hamilton) have taken to Twitter to share their theory that the Serpent sounds just like him. During the premiere, some also guessed that Jackson might be the Giraffe, but the actor has since shut that rumor down on Twitter. That doesn’t mean it’s totally out of the realm of possibility that he’s the Serpent, though… For more entertainment news and insight sent right to your inbox, sign up for our daily newsletter. One fan pointed out on Twitter that the Serpent’s voice sounds like Jamie Foxx did when he imitated Legend on The Tonight Show. That could be the same singing voice he’s using here, versus the one fans know from Foxx’s own music.ae0fcc31ae342fd3a1346ebb1f342fcb We’ll have to wait until the Serpent performs again to narrow down these theories, but there are a lot of solid guesses to go on already. No matter who’s wearing that mask, it seems like they’re going to stick around in the competition for awhile, so more clues are definitely coming our way.
